During our latest trip to Osijek, Croatia, we stopped by another smattering of the city’s more well-known coffee shops. This time Fort Pub, a favorite with the locals, was one of the first on our list.
Find out what we thought about Fort Pub and their coffee below.
Our Fort Pub Coffee Shop Review
In the heart of Trvda, the oldest district of Osijek, lies the city’s historic city center.
For several hundreds of years the square in Trvda has been bustling and still is today.
It was in this nostalgic neighborhood that we discovered Fort Pub.
Here’s our full review for Fort Pub:
Location – Full Star
Located in the heart of Osijek’s old town city-center, Fort Pub’s location is ideal. For those who enjoy archetiecture and history, there are few better situated coffee shops in the entire city.
In fact, it sits between two of the most popular museums in Osijek; the Museum of Slavonia, and the Archaeological Museum of Osijek.
The only down side to Fort Pubs location is the fact that it sits in a row of five or six other coffee shops. So, it’s easy to mistake which coffee shop you’re actually sitting down at (most of the seating is outside in the square).
That said, the noise of the crowded square could also be a downside to those who enjoy more secluded spots.
We rate Fort Pub a full star for its unique historic location.
Atmosphere – One Half of a Star
The atmosphere of Fort Pub is that of the historic square that it sits in. With all the hub-bub of the people coming and going through the old city-center and chit-chatting over coffee, the atmosphere of Fort Pub is something like an outdoor festival.
Again, the downside of the coffee shop is the opposite of its charm; there is no privacy. For those exploring the old city, looking for a nice place to chill out with a coffee, Fort Pub is a great choice.
We rate Fort Pub one half of a star for its bustling outdoors atmosphere.
Coffee – Full Star
The beverages themselves weren’t anything that particularly stood out to either of us. Meaning, they were neither great nor terrible.
The espresso we ordered could have been hotter, as well as a bit less sweet. However, there is no accounting for everyone’s taste!
We rate Fort Pub one half of a star for their coffee.
Staff – One Half of a Star
As far as the actual staff of Fort Pub, we have zero complaints. The barista was polite and professional, albeit a bit stiff compared to others in Osijek.
The wait was short, and the coffee wasn’t too bad either. All in all, the waiter was average in regards to our typical coffee shop experiences in Osijek.
We rate Fort Pub with one half of a star for staff.
Price – One Half of a Star
Fort Pub’s prices don’t differ much from the countless coffee shops strewn about Osijek.
You can expect to pay around $1.50 to $2.00 per drink.
We rate Fort Pub a full star on their competitive prices.
3.5 out of 5 Stars
Based on the above criteria, we rate Fort Pub Coffee Shop with three and a half out of five stars. Granted, if it weren’t for the fact that the pub is surrounded by equally quality coffee shops, the overall score would be a four.
In addition, if prices were cheaper, or there was a bit more character to the staff, the place may rate pretty close to a five-star coffee shop!
